Schedule & Progress

Progress of work at Walthamstow School for Girls so far

Progress as at 22nd January 2010

We are delighted to report that on 30th December 2009, after a construction period lasting 17 months, Walthamstow School for Girls received its practical completion certificate.

The £18.5m, 9,500m2 project comprised the refurbishment of the existing Grade 2 listed building (50%) and a new extension (50%), the whole located in a conservation area.

The 900 pupil School, which is a specialist ICT school is the final one of the 3 sample Schools in the Waltham Forest BSF scheme and involved the decanting of pupils off site to Warwick Boys School.

The buildings now have full disabled access with levels matching between all the blocks. A total of 9 different facade trades were necessary on the new build section of the project (including brick, natural stone, timber, metal cladding, curtain wall, windows, Gima blocks) to meet the requirement of English Heritage.

All ICT services (CCTV, access control, telephony, cash-less catering...) have been successfully delivered and are fully operational.

Feedback from both the School and the Local Authority on the design, construction and decant of this project has been excellent.

Congratulations to all the team involved!
