Kelmscott School is an existing school that shares a campus with a community leisure centre. The main existing buildings were constructed in the 1960's with some additions in the 80's and 90's to the rear of the site. The existing buildings are rather cramped and suffer from a lack of identity, the main entrance is difficult to find hidden next to the service yard for the kitchen.

A new extension is proposed to provide a new entrance and to greatly enhance the learning facilities, providing new drama and assembly spaces, new catering facilities alongside a street style dining space. The extension places the new full height glazed main entrance in a prominent position on Markhouse Road, giving the school greater visibility in its community. An internet café is located at the entrance available both to pupils and the community.
The new dining street is extended through the campus linking the existing buildings with a covered walkway that improves the circulation routes around the school. An additional covered walkway will be installed the around the perimeter of the 1960’s main building both giving additional sheltered route for pupils moving between lessons and visually linking the new and old buildings
The use of different coloured render on the facades will highlight the new entrance whilst large areas of glazing allow views out to the re-landscaped grounds and welcoming views into the main entrance.
Externally the landscape will be remodelled to provide a variety of new spaces including themed garden areas and an external amphitheatre near to the new dining facilities This can be used both as casual seating for socializing and as a formal performance space.
